Shakedown cruise time

After completing the main servicing jobs on board the tasks have turned to spending more time relaxing and planning what we need to do to depart on our travels south. We have had Nigels Mum and sister onboard for a couple of days to enjoy our first proper shake down sails and anchoring overnight on the boat. After sampling the seafood restaurants in Combarro on the first evening, we set sail for a beautiful sail from Combarro to Aldan. This was followed by an extremely comfortable night with zero wind and swell. A chance came to get our Kayaks out and watch a local club training in their K1 and K2 Kayaks. They are really fast, but the most skill was shown by those kneeling on one knee in extremely narrow hulls and paddling Canadian canoe style. Leave a comment if you know what they are called, they are quite common around here. In the morning we motored North West, to San Vincent, this anchorage was more exposed and a had a bit of swell, but the wind only arrived after we arrived so the sails remained furled. Tomorrow sees a breezier day and a forecast broad reach back to our home marina, time fo Kerensa to stretch her legs and show us what she can do. So far the shakedown sail has given us a fairly short list of jobs so our planned leaving date of the end of the month is just about on track, although we still await a parcel we shipped from the UK about a month ago to be released from Spanish customs.

Thank you both for a great few days on Kerensa. What more can one want, good breezes for sailing, calm water while anchored off beautiful beaches and good company. A very well set up boat for your new life ahead. Good luck to you bothxx

Hi you two. It is Lynne. Enjoying your blog. Have only just found out how to access all your news. Looks fantastic. I really envy what you are doing and what a way to live. I have never had a partner/husband who was a sailor so I have seriously missed out. The nearest I have got is snorkelling all over the world!!!!! Love the remote areas of Spain and Portugal. Enjoy yourselves and please send photos. Xxxxxx
