Greece part 2

Our friends left on Wednesday and we stayed in Kini awaiting delivery of our part to fix the anchor windlass operation. As other yachts departed we tucked ourselves into a cove close to the beach. Dropping anchor, a swimmer came over saying we were too far in and he was going to get the police to move us. We moved further out to keep the peace, which was a bit more rolly but still protected from the wind. A couple of days later a catarmaran came and anchored well inside us and this must have provoked the aforementioned call to the police because just as we got in the dinghy to go for dinner we heard loud whistles and waving from a policeman who called us over. Long story short he made all the yachts, three by now, move even further out. Much anchoring practice was gained! However, all in all it wasnt a bad place to stay and we sampled the restaurants and cocktail bars while we waited for our part. By Saturday we had decided we would have to move due to the forecast wind direction and get a taxi back to pick up the part when it arrived. However timing was on our side for once and about an hour before raising the anchor, Olga from the restaurant called to say she had it. Nigel went ashore to collect it while Amanda prepped the boat to leave.

We set sail for Naousa on Paros in 18-20 knts with full main and staysail up reaching @ 8-10 knots with a top speed of 11.5knts recorded. Great sail! We did take a couple of blue ones onboard as we were pretty much broadside to the waves. It's still warm enough to be in swimming costumes though so no problem.

Ariving in Naousa we went to drop the anchor and found it would raise but not lower, a completely different set of symptoms but diagnostically helpful. Nigel lowered the anchor by hand and we bit first time. However a catamaran moored next to us lifted and left, probably as he saw  Nigel wrestling with our anchor chain! His boat was replaced by another 10 mins later.

Stripping the windlass contactor, looking old!

We cancelled our plan to sail Eastwards on Sunday and stripped the anchor solenoid, cleaning contacts. It's not in great shape and needs replacing but worked on reassembly for now. The part we waited for wasn't the problem. We will get a replacement as soon as we can make a plan re collection place.

We are headed towards Koufonisi tomorrow and will get our water tanks filled.
